Build ME Blocks--Behind the Scenes
Since childhood one of my great passions has been education, learning and attaining knowledge. As adulthood has approached my passion has grown to see these components contribute to as safe and free thinking environment. Even one that can be found in each of our own homes, classrooms and leadership opportunities. Creativity, passion and the love of life is learned best in an environment where the focus in on learning--without knowing even that we are learning.
In childhood, I would read to my dog. It was great! This was one of my most relaxing pastimes. As a parent, I hoped to instill just a little bit of love and like for reading and encourage how much can be discovered by the words that they see in print. Introducing reading to my first child, the conclusion was made that games bring about the fun of reading or learning letters and words. We first names the reading Balloon Reading as we learned to read from the cut-out construction paper balloons that hung on the wall of our apartment. Later and the current name we use is Word Detectives--to discover the great use of the words we use.
Find the positive, another component of what I hoped that my children would learn to incorporate in their lives. Though, I learned quickly that it was first going to have to start with me. Admitting, this was a struggle to begin with--it takes a great deal of work some days to find those positives--though finding and creating a structure that we could fall back on increased our success.
Combining the two concepts, Motivation (encouragement of finding the positives) and Education (instilling the love of reading), Build ME Blocks was created. Build ME Blocks for Kids! uses resources--Posters, a Calendar, Games and a Journal to help encourage and reinforce the Character Traits that we can each use to engage our best selves!
